Shiatsu Massage:

Shiatsu translates from Japanese to mean “finger pressure.” It is a system of bodywork that uses gentle manipulation with finger and hand pressure along the body’s energy pathways called meridians to release blocked energy. By doing this, shiatsu relieves pain and tension, corrects functioning of the internal organs, and treats specific conditions of illness. It follows the same principles as acupuncture, but uses finger pressure rather than needles. This type of massage can be performed with the client wearing loose, comfortable clothing.

Swedish Massage:

Manipulation of the body’s soft tissue using various techniques such as effleurage (gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading), friction, tapotement (percussion), and vibration. It is performed on a massage table with the client undressed and properly draped with a sheet and/or towel. Massage gel or oil is used as a lubricant to provide smooth skin surfaces to work on. Moist heat packs are sometimes used to warm and relax the muscles.

One of the important principles of Swedish Massage is that circulation and flexibility are the keys to good health. The proper use of massage can eliminate blockages and increase the circulation of blood and lymph. It also increases the mobility and range of motion of the joints and the power and balanced action of the muscles.

Myofascial Massage Therapy:

This technique works on the layers of fascia which are in between and covering our muscles fibers, as well as in between the layers of muscles and skin. The fascia can become hardened, inflexible, shortened and unmoving with injury, stress, or aging. This can lead to chronic pain, tension, heaviness, loss of range of motion and distortions in posture or gait. Myofascial massage can deeply change these tissues by freeing the holding patterns that have existed for long periods of time. This work is often described as a very slow, deep, intense, but effective release of restricted tissues.

Pre-Natal Massage:

Undergoing the tremendous changes in your body that accompany being pregnant can result in a number of uncomfortable conditions. These include low back pain, swelling of hands and feet, headaches, calf cramps, insomnia, sciatic pain, and sinus congestion. Massage during pregnancy helps relieve many of these complaints through positive physiological effects of soft tissue manipulation. Overall, massage aims to minimize stress, promote relaxation, and prepare the muscles for childbirth.

In most instances, pregnancy massage can be received safely. At times, there are reasons not to get a massage, or precautions that should be taken by the massage therapist. It is recommended that you consult with your primary health care provider prior to your prenatal massage.

Massage for Fibromyalgia:

Those who have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia have reported that massage brings relief to their chronic pain and fatigue by providing reduced muscle stiffness, decreased stress and anxiety, improved sleep, more energy, and a more positive outlook on life.

A combination of Swedish Massage, Shiatsu, Reflexology, and Myofascial Massage therapy is used during these sessions. The massage is geared toward the particular client’s needs and is ultimately intended to be relaxing. The pace is generally slower, soothing, and avoids causing discomfort and pain.
